Get Involved

We work hand in hand with local communities to change lives.  Are you interested in joining us?

Kindredhouse General Volunteer missions give volunteers the opportunity to work alongside Cambodians on projects in health, education, environment, and community development.  Kindredhouse volunteers can really get their hands dirty and make a noticeable impact in Cambodian communities by building greenhouses, toilets, compost, doing site clean-up, distributing school and medical supplies, educating children by teaching English or Arts and Crafts, or assisting local project coordinators with development project assessment and evaluation. In addition to volunteer service, participants will have the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and culture of Cambodia by visiting monasteries and temples, riding an elephant through stunning scenery, and witnessing traditional Cambodian festivals and performances.

We can never have enough volunteers!  In fact, volunteer tourism – ‘voluntourism’ – is integral to our mission and so important for the community in Cambodia.  You’ll be provided with wonderful accommodations – breakfast included, transport between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and to and from our village clinic, private guide to UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Archeological Park and plenty of hard work to boot, if you choose.  Generally, our project trips are 10 days to two weeks.

We offer a balanced blend of cultural immersion, travel and volunteerism excursions to Cambodia for professional volunteers such as doctors, nurses, dentists, adventurists, educators, and students and leisure travelers alike. Volunteer activities might include building a retaining wall, cleaning and refurbishing a clinic and working on community-based projects such as reinforcing water retention areas, constructing waste bins, offering site clean ups and health education training. Volunteers can join with one of the featured journeys or create a customized journey to suit their own interests. Our program offers living and breathing Cambodian cultural experiences.

Where: Our service program primarily functions in remote villages where we have projects in the Siem Reap area. However, we organize cultural and spiritual journeys to unique and sacred places in other areas of Cambodia where some of our guides and staff grew up.

Who should join? Volunteer missions are designed for travelers who wish to experience the sights and sounds of Cambodia while helping better the lives of rural Cambodians. Participants need not have a special skill, just an open mind and a genuine compassion for others; Kindredhouse aims to put your own personal talents to work. Volunteers may also choose to assist skilled professional groups (Medical and Dental Mission etc.). Given the sometimes rugged terrain and temperature (hot and humid), participants must be physically fit and able to sustain themselves and their personal health – avoiding dehydration/fatigue.

When and where do we travel? Our service program primarily operates in somewhat remote villages in Siem Reap region. Depending on the location of the selected community, coordination and logistics, cost, and participant availability, our programs generally last between 10 and 14 days, and can optimally run from May to October.

Arrival / Departure: Los Angeles or San Francisco are generally the meeting points for the trip. Some travelers choose to meet us in Siem Reap or Phnom Penh on Day 1 (depending on the trip). At the end of the trip, you will be transferred to the airport for departure as a group. You’ll receive our Trip Logistics Guide when you reserve your space. It will include all the essential information you’ll need to make necessary preparations for the trip. The guide includes suggested travel gear, a recommended reading list, a day-to-day itinerary, health and safety information, and other key information to make your trip successful and safe.
